Abiball and Football

Judith's Abiball
I joined my old host family on Saturday night to celebrate Judith's graduation at her school's Abiball. Everyone dresses formally, eats a buffet, listens to a few memories over the past two years (the Abitur process is mostly completed during grades 12-13), plays games, dances, and generally has a good time.

The hall in which Judith's Abiball took place had to fit 400 guests. After the established programs, several tables had to be removed in order to make room for a dance floor.

Deutschland vs. Poland
There was a lot of excitement in the air on Sunday for Germany's first EM game of 2008. The battle for the European soccer cup began on Saturday. To celebrate Claudia's birthday, and Germany's game against Poland, a group of us went to Dortmund to watch the game on the big screen.
Some old friends: Christian and Claudia, whose birthday we were celebrating.

Inside Westfallenhalle. More people eventually came, but the hall was still half empty. It made getting out of the building at the end of the game easier. Unfortunately, half the hall was headed in the same direction we were afterwards and we all had to squeeze into a two-car U-bahn to get the Dortmund's main train station. It was a little close.
